US toll gates go electronic
A US toll gate in Denver has switched over to electronic tolling, following a similar move by the North Texas Tollway Authority, which turned the 32-mile President George Bush Turnpike into an entirely cashless facility, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Transportation experts claim these conversions mark the first time, in the US, that existing toll roads have abandoned their pay-with-cash lanes and gone entirely electronic.
Gas tax revenue isn't generating enough to pay for the nation's transportation infrastructure and the transition to electronic-only tolling hints at a cashless future where US cars come with transponders that charge them fees for every mile they drive.
MultiChoice Ghana drives e-payment
Multichoice Ghana has partnered with Afric Xpress to roll out the TxtNpay electronic payment system to DStv subscribers to simplify their subscription payments, says Ghana News.
According to Aaron Ampofo, MultiChoice Ghana operations manager, the TxtNpay platform had increased collection and minimised traffic at their corporate offices.
He notes it will take a while for people to understand the convenience TxtNpay introduces to DStv bill payments as the transactions are entirely traceable and are guaranteed as direct cash payments.
