New Media Technology Corporation has launched its USB MOBILE Hub, the latest offering in New Media`s line of miniature peripherals for notebooks. This product follows the introduction of the very successful USB MOBILE Mouse and is distributed in SA by AXiZ.
"The MOBILE Hub is the smallest and easiest way to add up to three additional USB ports to a notebook computer," says Patrick Reeves, mobile product manager at AXiZ. "Just plug the MOBILE Hub into a standard USB port and a user will have all the ports necessary to plug in any USB devices, such as a scanner, keyboard, camera or network card. There is no need for a special software driver to install, as the MOBILE Hub is automatically detected and configured by the host computer that it is plugged into."
Users can operate the MOBILE Hub without any external power, as it obtains all of its operating power from the computer`s USB slot. The MOBILE Hub works easily with both USB peripherals that are powered through an external power source and devices that are bus-powered. 100% Plug and Play and supporting "Hot-Insertion", the MOBILE Hub may be inserted and removed from the computer without rebooting.
"The MOBILE Hub is extremely portable," points out Reeves. "A user can easily place it in their notebook computer`s carrying case and take it with them when they need it. This hub takes up very little desk space with its 7,5cm x 2,5cm x 5,6cm (L x W x H) size."
The MOBILE Hub is made of a translucent design and comes with three interchangeable color tops. Three LED indicator lights monitor operation of each separate USB port, and it is compatible with all PC`s equipped with a USB port and running Windows 95(OSR2), 98 or 2000. It is also compatible with Apple Macintosh computers that have a USB port and are running MacOS 8.1 or greater.
