The Karuna Connection fundraising initiative, dedicated to the welfare of children affected by HIV/AIDS in SA, was unveiled last week.
The campaign is a joint venture between SMC Networks, Accton Technology and Cotlands Baby Sanctuary.
"The Karuna Connection has been established to raise funds, awareness and offer financial support towards the Cotlands Educare Programme, which provides education for children resident at Cotlands between the ages of three and six," says SMC South Africa country manager Paul Luff.
"Sixty percent of Cotlands children are HIV/AIDS orphans or have been abandoned as a result of AIDS," he adds.
Funds will be raised through the sale of specifically branded USB storage devices and wristbands, which can be purchased at www.karunaconnection.org.
"With the help of the Karuna Connection, we will be able to sustain the Cotlands Educare project with it eventually becoming self-sustaining," says Cotlands marketing manager Lindy Nieuwenhuizen.
"The Web site is also linked to the Cotlands infrastructure so funds can be donated via the Karuna Web site," she adds.
"Although there is still a huge amount of work to be done, we are very optimistic about the concept and the role it can play to improve living standards for the children," says Luff.
