Global Technology Business Intelligence (GBI), as the local distributor of the Hyperion range of business intelligence (BI) products, believes a crucial aspect of product support is to keep existing users in the loop as to where the product is going. GBI has therefore announced that the next Hyperion User Group (HUG) will be held on 3 June at The Castle in Kyalami.
"The user group is aimed at our financial and OLAP (online analytical processing) customers," says Alwin Swales, sales director for GBI. "Our goal with this conference is to update users as to where the product is at the moment and where it is going."
Swales stresses, however, that this HUG meeting will not be a product punt from GBI to its customers, and definitely not an analyst presentation to encourage customers that they have chosen the correct BI solution, but rather an opportunity for customers to interact with each other, and to hear other customers.
"We have secured presentations from various Hyperion customers on the subject of corporate planning; Hyperion Essbase tips and tricks; and Essbase implementation at a leading South African corporate; while Tim Jacobs, Group Accountant from Nampak, will advise what the company is doing with Hyperion Financial Management," Swales adds.
Along with an overview of where the product is going and what new features and developments will be available in the near future, trends in the BI market will also be discussed.
"An important part of future planning for a BI installation is to know what functionality one can expect from your application, and, more importantly, how that can be applied to business and what benefits can be derived."
Local users will be able to join in interactive discussions on various topics of interest, bounce ideas off each other and ask questions of each other and address the top business intelligence experts. Swales says the point of the exercise is for participants to be able to meet other users and discuss the "hows" and "whys" of their implementations.
"Networking and sharing information is still a prime way to learn and solve problems, and that is what HUGS aims at," concludes Swales. "Users can come up with amazing solutions to meet specific needs and sharing these enhances the product`s brand and image in the market. There is no better measure of a product or a company than first-hand experience from its customers and users."
