uShaka Marine World in Durban has installed an ACCPAC solution, says distributor AccTech Systems.
AccTech KwaZulu-Natal regional manager Mark Warriker says the accounting package will allow the park to capture detailed financial data. "They will be able to track how many people come into the park, how much money is spent and on what, and so on."
The project was labelled a 'greenfield` installation, as no systems existed at the newly built theme park.
uShaka requested that the solution be implemented before its first financial month, says Warriker. "They asked us to do a lot of customisation, which took a few more days. We had guys working through the night to ensure it was finished within time."
AccTech MD Tertius Zitzke believes one of the key advantages of the solution is the flexibility it offered. "uShaka was looking for a Microsoft SQL-based application that could be scaled as the business grows. The company`s IT department insisted on a Microsoft platform and this complemented AccTech`s initial advisory."
Warriker says a moderate degree of training was required to ensure staff were able to effectively use the software. "Some of the eight staff trained were not yet fully computer literate, so it took about two weeks.
"The product is designed for the end-user, not an accountant, so it is not too complex."
