"If the service is used in a video store, for example, they can notify their customers by SMS to return late videos," says Bernard Andr'e, owner of Bernan Net. "This might save such a business even more on their phone bill, up to 80%."
SMS-Suite comprises a central SMS sender and receiver module and a query engine to allow cellphone users to query their office databases by SMS. It also includes a bridge between Microsoft Outlook and cellphones, enabling users to add contacts, appointments and tasks from their cellphone, by SMS, into Microsoft Outlook.
The application also features voucher sales by SMS, e-mail to SMS, SIM card backup and restore facilities, and information requests by SMS, resulting in automated e-mails.
It can enable companies to sell services and invoice their subscribers. The application contains an "Accounts" section, with credit limits, history of all transactions, monthly fees administration and account blocking.
"In the application you can check accounts and keep track of your SMS costs at a click of a button. You can check statistics, like how many SMSs you sent to a particular person or country, for example. There is even an option to send SMSs between countries which don`t have a cellular network agreement," says Andr'e.
This is done by first routing the message to an SMS-Suite-enabled PC in a co-operative country, and than sending it through to its original destination.
Andr'e, who previously worked in several African countries and spent five years at Microsoft in Belgium, developed the application keeping in mind the needs of companies and how these can be addressed by SMS.
"SMS-Suite has been in constant development for a year-and-a-half now, and I kept adding more and more features to the original, which got me to the current version 4.6," he says.
