UUNET Namibia today launched its co-located hosting facility and product range, UUhost, which gives its customers access to a centrally located secure outsourced facility within UUNET Namibia where they will be able to house their servers.

The facility has been designed for optimal content-distribution whether this content be a home page or a more complex ASP-type solution. It is a foundation on which application service providers (ASPs) can start planning and delivering their content to the Namibian market.

"The Namibian market has a definite need for hosting services," says Barney Harmse, Director at UUNET Namibia. "The technology market is very mature with regards to fixed line or leased line Internet access and international trends have shown that businesses with this type of set-up are looking to bolster their Web presence, hence the need for a hosting service, as larger amounts of bandwidth is required. We believe that the launch of our hosting services, will effectively give our customers a new business avenue to market."

The UUhost service offering includes a secure facility, a fully redundant routing and bandwidth infrastructure, back-up generators, uninterrupted power supply (UPS), fully air-conditioned facilities and complete fire protection. To gain access to the UUhost services, customers will need to pay a monthly fee. The facility will provide only collocated services, which means that customers need to provide and manage their own hardware and software.

"Our hosting service is ideally suited for companies with many remote branches who may need to place files in a central place for easy distribution or for banks, financial institutions or software development houses who have new patches or applications that they want customers to upload. Through UUhost, customers do need to worry about any of the hosting requirements within the facility as it is all managed by UUNET, while still retaining ownership of their software and hardware," says Paul Janisch, UUhost Product Manager at UUNET.
