UUNET SA recently announced an industry first with the launch of its Mail Server Solution, which enables clients to host their e-mail applications for a fixed monthly cost. Currently, the solution supports and maintains the Microsoft Exchange and Sendmail e-mail applications.
Paul Janisch, UUhost product manager at UUNET SA, says: "Until now it has not been practical for companies to host mail servers off-site as bandwidth charges have not been predictable or manageable. Therefore, mail servers have inevitably remained on the company`s local area network. This is not the most ideal solution for companies that have a roaming sales force or numerous branches distributed around the country, or the globe for that matter."
The UUhost Mail Server Solution provides bandwidth to the hosted server in fixed increments, starting at 64 kilobits per second. A company will no longer need to pay the approximate 60c per megabyte, which results in variable bills at the end of each month but rather pay a set monthly rate. In addition to a fixed cost, the customer will have access to all the benefits of outsourcing, including the maintenance and support of an e-mail server, access to technical skills and continual software and hardware upgrades.
"UUNET SA has made a substantial investment in our data centre ensuring that it has the most advanced technology, uninterrupted power supply (UPS)-protected air-conditioning, generator backup as well as physical and virtual security. Economies of scale ensure that each of our customers has access to a range of required features and functionality at a fraction of the initial start-up cost," says Janisch.
"There are a number of businesses in SA that will greatly benefit from implementing the UUNET SA Mail Server Solution and I believe that it will add value to each of our customers by supporting the bottom line," concludes Janisch.
