UUNET SA, Nanoteq strengthen ties

Johannesburg, 20 Jan 2004

UUNET SA, SA`s leading provider of Internet services to the business market, has renewed its partnership with information security specialist, Nanoteq, following the success of an initial partnership agreement signed three years ago.

Under the terms of the agreement, Nanoteq will continue to supply a range of best-of-breed security services and products to UUNET`s customer base as a preferred security referral partner. Among the services that Nanoteq supplies to UUNET`s customer base are firewalls, anti-virus, content screening and intrusion detection solutions, as well as consulting, vulnerability assessments and security policy services.

Says Pam Molenaar, security product manager at UUNET SA: "UUNET understands that security is a crucial part of our customers` Internet strategy and this is why we continually seek to deliver a portfolio of solutions and services to meet our customers` needs. In an age where data has essentially become a business`s asset, there is very little reason why any less attention should be paid to it than any of the physical assets. In reality, physical assets are far simpler to replace than an individual or business`s personal work and intellectual capital."

"Therefore, we chose Nanoteq as one of our partners because it offers an extensive portfolio of security solutions and products, and is well-respected in the market. The partnership has delivered significant benefits to UUNET and its customers since it was established.

"Nanoteq has proven to be a supportive partner on several joint customer accounts in the last three years, including engagements at customers in UUNET`s operations in other parts of Africa," she adds.

Says Nelius Snyman, CEO of Nanoteq: "This partnership has already provided Nanoteq with several advantages, including access to UUNET`s corporate customer base. The agreement has played an important role in supporting Nanoteq`s transformation from being primarily a supplier and developer of security products for the defence and related sectors of the IT market, into one of SA`s most successful providers of managed security solutions and services to the public and private sectors."

Nanoteq has evolved from a developer of high-level cryptographic products for the most complex military and financial applications to become a global provider of integrated security systems.

Nanoteq provides optimal defence against security risks and electronic crimes in three main areas of business: government networks and applications, traditional IT security solutions and securing e-business environments.

It does this by delivering strong security solutions that effectively protect any data, voice and video information, secure financial transactions and provide cast-iron security for Internet banking.

Nanoteq is strongly differentiated in the international market through its ability to design and implement complex end-to-end security solutions based on people, processes and technology, its pool of highly skilled people and its rigorously disciplined approach to project management.

The company`s consultancy offering encompasses security architectures and frameworks, security policy review, risk assessment, penetration testing, security awareness programmes and security formalisation.

Nanoteq has formed alliances with internationally recognised leaders in the ICT security field, including Nokia, Checkpoint, RSA, ISS, Trend, Authentica, NetIQ, Verisign and other specialist security providers.
