UUNET is the official Internet service provider (ISP) for the African Computing & Telecommunication Summit, with the theme "Human networking to connect Africa". The summit, organised by AITEC, is being held at St George Hotel, Pretoria, from 30 July to 3 August.
THE ACT 2001 conference represents a perfect opportunity for UUNET to become actively involved in the promotion of Africa and its people.
"The African continent has the ability to be transformed into a dynamic trading market with strong growth potential. With new technology coming, there is huge potential for investors. This conference presents an important avenue for people to re-affirm their commitment to the advancement of an emerging continent," says Dave Meintjes, commercial director for UUNET SA.
"UUNET is pleased to provide the Internet connectivity for the conference, in addition to sponsoring the gala dinner, because as an organisation we believe that this is an indication of the importance of Africa`s potential as a key growth market," adds Meintjes. "For Africa to meet its full potential it is crucial that an organisation invest and partner with African companies. UUNET has partnered with Africa Online to develop UUNET in Africa, which will be operational in at least eight countries throughout the continent by 2002."
The ACT 2001 conference is designed to engage and stimulate the need for further development and commitment by organisations that understand the socio-economic challenges in relation to the potential each market offers.
Announcing UUNET`s involvement, Sean Moroney, Group Chairman of AITEC, organiser of the event, said: "UUNET is setting the pace in bandwidth provision in Africa and its vision will increase the level of competition and service in the market. We welcome UUNET`s support for ACT and look forward to David Meintjes` keynote address to the African ISP Forum to help set the agenda for Internet development in Africa."
Dean van Vuuren, UUsecure product manager, UUNET SA, will also be presenting on develop a security model to suit your needs, including a live network hack demonstration in the e-Security workshop.
