Valimo, a leading solution provider for mobile user authentication and digital signature software, announces that Tele2 Norway, a major European mobile operator, has selected its Mobile ID authentication service platform. The Valimo solution will offer over one million Tele2 subscribers in Norway the opportunity to securely access services that require strong, two-factor authentication, such as Internet banking or e-government applications, using their mobile phones to generate a legally binding electronic signature. As a first step, this new service will enable highly secure and legally binding log-in for online and mobile banking with four major banks in Norway.
Tele2's mobile signature program will allow users to perform secure online transactions any time and anywhere through any kind of connected device such as low-end mobile handsets, smartphones or tablets, as long as they use a SIM card. Compatible with BankID*, this open and interoperable solution can be installed on any SIM card and encompasses the client software, back-office servers and a number of security modules to create a one-stop shop for operators and service providers. With Valimo's authentication solution, Tele2 subscribers are only four digits away from conveniently signing their online interactions with the highest level of protection.
"We are determined to provide our subscribers with the safest environment in which to enjoy the convenience of mobile and online banking," said Majid Iqbal, Head of Mobile ID Services, Tele2 Norway. "Valimo offers a universal source of supply and the solution supports digital signatures according to the regulations from the Banks' Standardization Office."
"Tele2's launch of a mobile digital signature service further underlines their innovative approach," added Yousaf Ghous, CEO of Valimo. "By integrating the SIM as a security vault to enable new value-added services, Tele2 is staying one step ahead of the market. This scalable solution brings out the full potential of mobile phones to deliver other convenient and highly secure applications, such as e-government services."
"We're very excited to see Tele2 in Norway launching interoperable mobile identity services in co-operation with the national banking association to provide greater convenience and security to consumers," said Dawn Haig-Thomas, Business Lead, Mobile Identity for the GSMA. "We believe this co-operation between mobile operators and banks can be replicated in many markets to the benefit of the consumer."
