More than R2 million worth of technology will assist the University of Limpopo to better communicate across its different campuses.
The university has appointed Questek Advanced Technologies (QAT) as supplier for the technological upgrade, which will see state-of-the-art video conferencing facilities set up between its Pretoria and Polokwane campuses.
"The main objective of the system is to reduce travel and accommodation costs, as well as the travel risk for the monthly senate committee meetings," says QAT GM Sobi Mokholo. "Video conferencing changes the way companies and institutions conduct business."
The facilities will also be available for other meetings across the two campuses.
The system involves an automated camera-tracking solution, where delegates push a button on a personal console if they are about to speak, which signals the camera to focus on their pre-determined position.
It uses AMX controls software, and hardware such as LCD monitors, plasma screens, DLP projectors, and six video cameras.
The University of Limpopo is made up of the former University of the North and the Medical University of SA.
