The day is about to break, a distant call of a lion roaring, the first chatter of birds awaking and, as the sun rises, a splash of colour and the call of the fish eagle as the bird launches itself from an old tree still silhouetted next to the water, an unfortunate fish becomes the first meal of the day.
In the lodge the guests are getting up and moving towards the reception, firstly and most importantly, for a cup of coffee and a rusk, before moving onto an open vehicle for a game drive. The hope and excitement of what lies ahead is palpable among the guests.
The camp manager, after bustling around the guests making sure their every need is tended to, gets a few hours' respite. In this time he can order goods and delicacies from civilisation, far away.
This done, an employee, Joseph, is sent on his way to collect the goods. The manager knows too well that Joseph will probably return with only a portion of the goods ordered. 'Civilisation' sometimes runs out of stock or has had its own problems, and is unable to communicate with the lodge.
Upon the return of Joseph, a day later, the camp manager reorganises menus and manages expectations and requirements as best he can.
At one such camp in the depths of Africa, a communications revolution has occurred. With the use of satellite and some smart configuring, the camp can now receive Internet, and due to this, telephones. VBX Communications partnered with Logical Wireless to bring a new wave of technology to the lodge. Not only has it transformed the day-to-day running of the lodge, but also emergencies can be quickly resolved, transfers can be arranged more speedily, and of course bookings made and confirmed directly to and from the lodge.
What VBX has accomplished is communication in an area where communication used to be difficult or non-existent. The lodge now has good communication and our manager can run his business more securely in the knowledge that he now knows what to expect; the guests will be arriving, Joseph will arrive with the ordered goods and emergencies can be quickly attended to.
