VeeamON Tour in SA highlights importance of always-on strategy

Johannesburg, 27 Oct 2015

Veeam Software, the innovative provider of solutions that deliver Availability for the Modern Data Center, today announced the VeeamON Tour event will take place on 30 October at The Maslow Hotel, in Johannesburg, and on 3 and 5 November in Durban and Cape Town respectively. It will not only see the spotlight on the new Veeam Availability Suite v9, but it will also give delegates the opportunity to see the benefits of implementing an always-on strategy.

"The modern business has shifted from one that is reliant on a traditional backup approach to something that has to have virtually round-the-clock availability of data. This event is specifically designed to bring thought leaders and IT professionals together and show just why bridging this availability gap is crucial," says Warren Olivier, regional manager for southern Africa at Veeam.

HP and Microsoft will be the gold sponsors of the event in South Africa this year.

Adam Day, category manager for the Storage Division at HP South Africa, says HP has a long relationship with Veeam and integrating its solutions.

He cites how the HP StoreVirtual was the first storage system in the industry to integrate with Veeam Backup and Replication version 6.5 more than three years ago.

"There was a gap that needed to be filled related to the HP Catalyst features. Now we can help companies increase backup and restore performance with HP StoreOnce Catalyst and Veeam Availability Suite to take control of data management," he says.

"Veeam and Microsoft are continuing our longstanding relationship to help customers deal with the exponential growth of data. Beyond this challenge, our customers need to secure this data and ensure that valuable intellectual property is not lost in the case of an incident or disaster - all with smaller IT budgets. Having our partners with us in solving these customer challenges is crucial," says Eline Herbert, product marketing manager for Modern Data Centre at Microsoft South Africa.

"Microsoft will share our Microsoft Azure Backup and Disaster Recovery capabilities with the VeeamON Tour channel partners and introduce them to the new Microsoft Operations Management suite solution, which allows customers to manage their hybrid data centre environments, including Hyper-V, VMWare, Linux, Azure, AWS and Google."

Delegates at VeeamON Tour South Africa will also have the opportunity to listen to customer success stories illustrating the issues of data availability to help enable the always-on business.

"Our research has shown that 82% of CIOs report a gap between the level of availability legacy backup solutions provide and what users demand. There is clearly a need to say goodbye to the legacy backup strategies of old and welcome the era of always-on availability," adds Olivier.

VeeamON Tour 2015 is a series of multi-city Veeam events happening across the world. With the theme of 'Availability for the Modern Data Centre', there will be a number of formal and informal networking sessions that include presentations, interactive roundtables, live demonstrations, workshops, and question-and-answer sessions.

Veeam recognises the new challenges companies across the globe face in enabling the Always-On Business, a business that must operate 24/7/365. To address this, Veeam has pioneered a new market of Availability for the Modern Data Center. Unlike "legacy backup" solutions which provide recovery time (RTO) and recovery point objectives (RPO) of hours or days, Veeam helps organisations meet recovery time and point objectives (RTPO) of less than 15 minutes for all applications and data. This is achieved through a fundamentally new kind of solution that delivers high-speed recovery, data loss avoidance, verified protection, leveraged data and complete visibility. Veeam Availability Suite, which includes Veeam Backup & Replication, leverages virtualisation, storage, and cloud technologies that enable the modern data centre to help organisations save time, mitigate risks, and dramatically reduce capital and operational costs.

Founded in 2006, Veeam currently has 33 000 ProPartners and more than 157 000 customers worldwide. Veeam's global headquarters are located in Baar, Switzerland, and the company has offices throughout the world. To learn more, visit http://www.veeam.com.
