Venture Computer withdraws from Compaq distribution

Johannesburg, 09 Apr 1999

Independent value-added distributor Venture Computer today announced that it is to withdraw from distribution of the Compaq range of computer products.

"Our decision to withdraw from the Compaq business is based entirely on what we believe is in the interests of both Venture and Compaq," said Venture MD Gary Combrink.

"Venture is a value-added niched distribution company built around high levels of knowledge and service. The Compaq business model requires a broad-based high volume distribution approach.

"A move to a broad-based model would compromise the unique and successful core business and competencies which have accounted for our market position, and the success of our exclusive brands," continued Combrink.

Henry Ferriera, sales director at Compaq Computer, stated that the parting was certainly most amicable and allowed both companies to focus further on developing their own core businesses

Venture will initiate the closure of its Compaq division with immediate effect. The company will take all possible steps to assist channel partners in managing the transition to an alternative distribution source.

Venture Computer is the exclusive Southern African distributor and brand custodian for the Lexmark range of corporate and home printing solutions, as well as the Tally range of high-speed, mission-critical impact printer range, with offices in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth. Venture has been adjudged by the channel as Printer Distributor of the year for the past three years.
