VERITAS Software Corporation has announced its support of Novell`s NetWare Cluster Services for NetWare 5 with VERITAS Exec for NetWare and VERITAS Backup Exec Shared Storage Option. This NetWare Cluster Services support is an extension of VERITAS` long-term strategic partnership with Novell and further demonstrates the Company`s ongoing commitment to, and vision for a Storage Area (SAN) management model that includes critical technologies to help every point of a SAN.

"Extending the capabilities of VERITAS Backup Exec for NetWare, VERITAS Backup Exec Shared Storage Option breaks new ground in performance for large-scale, high-end storage environments and is especially suited to protecting Novell`s NetWare Cluster Services for NetWare 5," says Nick van Noordwyk, regional manager, Middle East and Africa for VERITAS Software SA. "Our mutual customers benefit significantly from our long-term partnership with Novell, which brings them a manageable solution offering fast fail-over and centralised storage management."

Novell`s NetWare Cluster Services decrease the likeliness of network failure, allow customers to more efficiently manage network resources, such as applications and data volumes, and enable the deployment of centralised storage and SANs. With fast fail-over, Novell Directory Services (NDS) integration and scalability, NetWare Cluster Services has the capability to support up to eight servers in the cluster.

"By partnering with VERITAS Software, Novell can provide customers requiring the benefits of server clustering with a high-availability solution that increases productivity and reduces downtime, resulting in overall savings to any business," says Novell SE manager James Stewart.

"With support through VERITAS Backup Exec for NetWare and the Shared Storage Option, our NetWare Cluster Services solution offers centralised storage without redundant hardware configurations."

With expertise in both data protection and network management, VERITAS Software first marked its entry into the SAN market in October 1998 by announcing and shipping the first Novell NetWare SAN solution with VERITAS Backup Exec Shared Storage Option for both Novell NetWare, as well as for Microsoft Windows NT.

VERITAS Backup Exec Shared Storage Option leverages the benefits of a Fibre Channel SAN, including increased backup performance, centralised management, reduced impact on network users, consolidation of storage devices, efficiency, scalability and lower total cost of ownership.
