Veritas Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS), the industry`s leading enterprise-class application storage management software provider, has announced that is has received the Blue Ribbon Award from the Network World Test Alliance, a cooperative of premier reviewers in the network industry, for a beta version 4.5 of VERITAS WinLAND (Network World, May 31,1999). VERITAS WinLAND is an integral inventory component of version 3.5 of VERITAS Desktop Management Suite.
"In a field of five inventory and asset management programs, [VERITAS] WinLAND conducted the most comprehensive software inventory and offered the largest selection of reporting options," wrote James Gaskin of the Network World Test Alliance.
The beta version 4.5 of VERITAS WinLAND was tested against Tally Systems`NetCensus 2.94, Attest Systems` Gasp Audit 5.0, BindView Development`sNETinventory 6.0 and Computer Associates`AimIT 3.0 Workgroup Edition. With weighted category scores adding up to 100 percent, each product was tested most heavily in client support, hardware inventory and software inventory criteria. Medium weight was placed upon reporting and interoperability functionality, and the least amount of weight was given to job scheduling, standards support, installation and documentation; however, these combined skills added up to a significant part of the review.
"We are flattered to have received the Blue Ribbon Award for a product reviewed in its beta version," said Michael Colemere, vice president of product management, VERITAS Software. "Our customers are most-impressed with our final version 4.5 of VERITAS WinLAND" announced today.
In its tested state, VERITAS WinLAND proved impressive to the Network World Test Alliance. In his review, Gaskin continues on by mentioning how delighted the Alliance was to find the beta product "polished," "easy to use" and "detailed." "[VERITAS] WinLAND`s software inventory capabilities are unmatched. In our tests, the program correctly tagged nearly every application. Its hardware inventory was also among the best we tested," he wrote.
The referenced pros for VERITAS WinLAND were its extensive reporting features, excellent report export options and helpful documentation.
