Johannesburg, 20 May 2003

Enterprise provider Verity has acquired Inktomi`s enterprise search software business. The transaction, worth $25 million, broadens Verity`s offering of enterprise information retrieval products.

In terms of the deal, Verity has acquired the relating to Inktomi`s enterprise search software business, which includes basic search, categorisation and content refinement capabilities, as well as its XML technology assets. Inktomi`s products have been rebranded as Verity Ultraseek.

Inktomi, like Verity, is a provider of Web search and enterprise information retrieval solutions, and its acquisition gives Verity significantly enhanced market share.

Garth Wittles, district manager for Verity in SA, says Ultraseek products, including search and classification, give employees, customers and partners of departments and small to mid-size enterprises the power to quickly find mission-critical information.

Infoseek originally developed the enterprise search engine in the 1990s. It was included in Go Disney`s acquisition of Infoseek in July 1999 and subsequently sold to Inktomi in June 2000 for more than $300 million.
