Verizon integrates storage
Verizon's new storage device uses USB wireless broadband that couples Evolution-Data Optimised access with 4GB of integrated storage, reports ZDNet.
The idea is to meld the storage and transport of documents, photos and video. The wireless modem, USB727, is available from 5 October.
The modem, developed by Novatel Wireless, is designed to work with most desktops and notebooks. The modem will cost $149.99.
Storage vendors should reassess tools
The popularity of Web 2.0 applications is prompting top storage vendors to reassess their tools and services, says PC World.
The surging popularity of user-content-driven social networking Web sites and greater corporate demand for Web 2.0 applications is putting pressure on storage vendors to expand and diversify their offerings to meet the demands of a broader audience, say storage analysts.
"Web 2.0 is huge and growing, and what you're seeing is a lot more traditional brick-and-mortar companies trying to figure out how to leverage 2.0," says Bob Laliberte, analyst at Milford. "One of the first applications that people are finding to be useful is online storage."
Storage trends emerge
Attendees at the recent Storage Decisions conference shared the latest trends in the industry, reports Bytes and Switch.
Some of the trends include getting smarter about green IT, virtualisation, and how security is joining the storage area network.
Furthermore, 2008 will be heralded as the year of the gargantuan network-attached storage. Enterprises are also opening up to the concept of shared file systems that link to modular storage.
