Verizon opens green store
Verizon Wireless has opened its green communications store in Warwick, Rohde Island, located in Warwick Commons shopping plaza, says TMCnet.
The building incorporates design features, which help save energy, increase water efficiency, control CO2 emissions, along with high standards for indoor air quality maintenance and recycling processes.
The store exhibits what Verizon says is optimised green design and is expected to meet the US Green Building Council's criteria for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver certification.
Rental stores to use RFID
Automated movie and game rental chain MovieQ is using radio frequency identification (RFID) tags and a proprietary, RFID-enabled robotic solution to simplify the entertainment selection and rental processes for California consumers, reveals SDC Exec.
MovieQ's self-service stores are uniquely designed to address the challenges facing traditional movie rental chains, including high real estate and staffing costs, shrinkage and theft and consumer price-sensitivity.
The stores each feature nine customer interaction centres, which are RFID-enabled, automated DVD dispensing machines that display movie trailers and provide access to the store's library of entertainment DVDs and Blu-Ray discs.
Canadians up contactless payments
A recent study has revealed that contactless payments are becoming increasingly popular in Canada, with larger stores adopting the new system at a rapid clip, and smaller merchants expected to jump on the bandwagon, reports IT Business.
By 2014, a significant chunk of transactions in Canadian stores will be carried out using these payment systems, according to the study by Technology Strategies International, a market research firm.
“In that year, we expect the value of contactless transactions to reach $5.6 billion,” Christie Christelis, president of Technology Strategies told ITBusiness.ca.
