Vertex unveiled its Vertex O Series Solution, an application that presents retailers with consistent, accurate sales tax calculations across all channels, including brick-and-mortar stores, Web sites, and catalogues, reports Business Wire.

"E-commerce, tech, and global enterprise have expanded shopping options for consumers, but made accurate tax management nearly impossible for retailers," says John Cowan, director of the Retail Solutions Practice at Vertex.

He also says the Vertex O Series Retail Solution is designed to make manageable again by eliminating manual calculations - and with it, the risks of inefficiency, inaccuracy, and audit exposure often experienced in the retail industry.

Radiant buys Quest

Radiant Systems, a maker of touch-screen point-of-sale systems, has agreed to buy Quest Retail Technology, which provides point-of-sale technology to stadiums and entertainment venues, for about $54 million in cash, says CNNMoney.

Radiant said it will fund the deal with existing cash and an expanded debt facility.

The company expects the deal to add to its 2008 earnings and said it is buying the company to increase its presence in the "stadium, park and arena marketplace".

Research and Markets adopts report

Research and Markets has added Datamonitor`s new report: 2007 Trends to Watch: Retail Technology to its offering, states Business Wire.

In Western markets, retail industry growth has dropped to one of the slowest rates of modern times and consequently the role of IT has become increasingly important for improving business performance.

This brief outlines the role of services-oriented architecture and modern store-front technology in delivering competitive advantage, and how small to medium-sized enterprises can leverage technology in the wake of retail internationalisation.
