Individuals within the South African IT industry appear hugely concerned with the ongoing violence perpetrated against women in this country. This trend emerged during a recent charity drive initiated by Comztek, local ICT distributor.
The majority of Comztek`s resellers voted for People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA) to receive the bulk proceeds from Comztek`s annual charity drive. POWA`s mission is to contribute towards the complete eradication of violence against women in society, in order to enhance women`s quality of life.
"With abuse against women currently highlighted in the media, and the focus not only of several NGOs but also the government, it is unsurprising that it is top of mind when people want to contribute," says Comztek`s managing director, Paul Conradie.
Garnering the next highest number of votes were the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the QuadPara Association of South Africa (QASA).
Each year, Comztek runs an online Christmas campaign to raise money for three different national charities. The company`s resellers are asked to vote for which of these should receive their contribution, and Comztek distributes the donations accordingly.
