VIPDial ensures consistent security, availability at DHSwitch

Johannesburg, 27 Oct 2003

DHSwitch has consolidated its position as South African healthcare`s leader in electronic claims delivery with the adoption of Telkom`s VIPDial remote dial-up access solution. General practitioners (GPs) can now benefit from faster, more secure and reliable access to the company`s range of value-add services.

In short, VIPDial uses an Internet Protocol or IP network with secure tunnelling as the backbone. This enables DHSwitch to securely connect its analogue or ISDN dial-up users to its resources at the cost of a local call. The benefits to both DHSwitch and its customers are substantial.

Security of data is a prime concern for DHSwitch customers and VIPDial ensures this through strict user authentication and the use of secure tunnels within the network.

In addition, Telkom`s service level agreements (SLAs), high bandwidth and countrywide coverage ensure 99.9% network uptime or availability - gone is the frustration of low speed connection due to overcrowded or unstable networks.

A further benefit for users is that the use of a single 08600 dial-up number eliminates any problems that may be encountered as Telkom implements its new 10-digit nation numbering procedure (where users have to include the area dial code).

Using Telkom`s shared network infrastructure literally halves the infrastructural costs of DHSwitch - a saving that can be passed on to the customer, while at the same time freeing up resources that can be redirected to the company`s core activities.

DHSwitch is currently in the process of transferring, at no charge, existing customers using the QCOMM claims submission software to the updated MedComm programme that will enable them to experience the benefits of VIPDial. To date, 2 950 users have transferred and another 3 000 will be converted in the coming months.

VIPDial is unquestionably a major step-up from the old SAMI (South African Medical Intranet) network and its adoption enables DHSwitch to further enhance its customer service levels in its ongoing drive to assist local healthcare providers improve their business efficiencies.
