() Virgin Mobile has introduced 3G data services.

The company says the services can be used on 3G-capable cellphones and modems, and will be offered at the same out of bundle rate charged for its previous GPRS/Edge data offering of 60c per MB.

Over the next few months, Virgin Mobile will also introduce low-priced prepaid and postpaid modem deals, notes the operator.

Cell C unveiled its new network in September last year and has been on a nationwide roll-out over the past few months. It currently has 34% nationwide coverage and hopes to achieve 67% nationwide coverage by mid-year.

The news comes on the back of Cell C's announcement that it had sold its 50% stake in the operator. However, Cell C CEO Lars Reichelt said at the time that Cell C has been and will continue to be a strong partner of Virgin Mobile.

“The change in shareholding is part of Cell C's strategy of providing a platform for growth for MVNOs, backed up by our... HSPA+ 900/2100 network,” he stated.
