Continuity planning for dummies

New Zealand publisher Brookers and Moore Stephens International have joined together to offer New Zealand businesses a solution for preparing business plans, reports Scoop.

The product, dubbed BusinessWise Continuity Planner, is designed to walk business owners and managers through the steps required for a business continuity plan.

Brookers GM product development, Haydn Davies says, "In the event of a disaster or significant outage, it's the businesses that plan for continuity during and after such events that will ultimately succeed and grow.

Virtual tape library growth predicted

IDC expects the worldwide virtual tape library (VTL) market will double in value over the next five years, reaching $1.4 billion by 2011, reports Continuity Central.

The IDC says the market terabytes will increase at a rapid 47.4% compounded annual growth rate over the same period. Open system VTL solutions will drive market growth and eclipse enterprise mainframe VTL market value in the year ahead, the research house says.

Schools embrace business continuity

Hitachi Data Systems and McData have announced a partnership with Redline to deploy a combined Hitachi Data Systems and McData remote data replication solution, using Redline wireless technology, for disaster recovery and maintaining business continuity at two school boards in Peterborough, Ontario, Business Wire reports.

"With our curriculum becoming ever more reliant on educational software tools, students completing more of their class work on school-owned systems, and school administrators utilising technology to interact with parents and maintain student records, our school boards need to ensure that critical IT services can be assessed and restored quickly in the event of potential outages," said Ronald Plaizier, CIO, KPR District Public School Board.
