Virtualisation for offline users
Citrix claims to have cracked one of the limitations of desktop virtualisation - how to continue working when a machine is offline, states Tech World.
Citrix has released XenClient in beta, its client-side virtualisation product that allows users to continue working on virtual desktops even when they're disconnected from the network.
The company has worked with Intel to install a bare metal hypervisor, based on Intel's vPro virtualisation technology.
Virtualisation to transform business
In his keynote address at CA World 2010, Bill McCracken, CEO of CA Technologies, told attendees business will embrace virtualisation and cloud computing in order to remain competitive, says PR Newswire.
"When economic conditions, technology advances, and customer needs align, transformation happens," said McCracken.
"As we emerge from the global economic downturn, we have a tremendous opportunity to leap forward and embrace change, or risk being left behind," he added.
VMLogix, Citrix, Carpathia team up
VMLogix, a provider of virtual machine management solutions, is working with Citrix Systems and Carpathia Hosting to bring development and testing workloads to the cloud, writes DABCC.
As part of the agreement, VMLogix LabManager will integrate with the Carpathia InstantOn enterprise cloud offering which is powered by Citrix XenServer.
The joint InstantOn Virtual Lab solution will deliver an easy-to-use virtual lab management solution to cloud environments and provide a smooth transition from preproduction to production environments while significantly reducing lab costs when compared with dedicated development and test labs.
