Virus alert from SecureData: High risk virus assessment on TROJ_MATCHER.A

Outlook mass-mailing virus in-the-wild; updated protection now available, free online virus scanner detects/removes Trojan

SecureData, an ERP.com company and the exclusive sub-Saharan distributors of Trend Micro, is warning computer users of a fast spreading virus known as TROJ_MATCHER.A. This virus is a Trojan worm that was created in Visual Basic 6.0.

The virus spreads via email, recipients are taken from the Windows Address book. Disguised as a Love Matching Program TROJ_MATCHER.A uses the Visual Basic component Microsoft Script Control to propagate itself using the default installed mail client.

has been posted to SecureData's web site as pattern file #880. Existing customers can also use the content filtering plug-in eManager( to block the attachment MATCHER.EXE or the subject of MATCHER. Additionally, concerned computer users can use Trend Micro's free online virus scanner Housecall( to detect this threat.

"This looks like a swindle of the original Melissa virus," says Wayne Biehn, SecureData Sales Director. "Unfortunately, people are still falling for it. Our hope is that people will take this warning seriously and not open any .exe attachments."
