SecureData, an ERP.com company and the exclusive sub-Saharan distributors of Trend Micro (Nasdaq: TMIC, TSE: 4704), is warning computer users of a fast spreading worm known as VBS_VBSGW.Z (aliases: MAWANELLA, VBSGW.Z.)
This Visual Basic Script (VBS) worm copies itself to a "Mawanella.vbs" file in the Windows 9X/ME directory or to the WINNT/WINDOWS 2000 system32 directory. It propagates by sending copies of itself as attachment via e-mail to all entries in an infected system's contact list. After it sends e-mails, or if the infected system does not have an application installed, the worm displays messages.
