VISI brings VMware server
Minnesota-based VISI, a provider of cloud computing, data centre services and managed hosting, has released its new virtual dedicated server product based on VMware's virtualisation and management suite called VMware Infrastructure 3, reports TMCnet.
VISI's offering was designed to provide a “higher level” of security, reliability and performance than available with traditional hosting products, according to company officials.
Leveraging VMware's High Availability feature, VISI has been able to maximise customers' uptime by rebooting a virtual server on another physical host in the event of hardware failure, officials said.
Verde 2.0 enhances Linux virtual desktop
Virtual Bridges, IBM, and Canonical have released the newest version of a Linux server-based virtual desktop with the release of Virtual Bridges' Verde 2.0 software, states PRWeb.
The Open Virtual Client desktop is a combination of IBM's Smart Client desktop software, Canonical's Ubuntu Linux servers and Linux desktop, and Virtual Bridges' Verde Virtual Desktop Infrastructure offering.
Verde 2.0 addresses both private cloud and public cloud requirements, meets the needs of the connected and the disconnected user, and simultaneously manages both Windows and Linux desktop sessions.
Netezza debuts data warehousing appliance
Netezza is to release a data warehousing appliance to run on faster blade server-based hardware, according to Techworld.
The new appliance will be called the TwinFin, after a type of surfboard. The fourth generation of Netezza's data warehousing appliances, the TwinFin will be able to store up to one petabyte of user data and run faster than the prior 10 000-series appliances because of its use of Intel-based IBM blade servers, according to Phil Francisco, VP of product marketing.
Francisco said the new blade servers, combined with Netezza's Field Programmable Gate Array chips for accelerating data throughput, will enable the TwinFin to run two to five times faster than the 10 000, which he claimed "will stretch our performance lead over the Oracle Database Machine".
