Beyond IT, the new concept computer store chain focused on the convergence between information technology and photography, has become a Logitech partner offering its range of webcams as part of its imaging solutions.

Beyond IT has eight specialist photographic stores in shopping malls on the Reef - at Killarney, Rivonia, Southdale, Southgate, Rosebank, Key West (Krugerdorp), the Glenn and Hyde Park.

Shawn Bezuidenhout, sales manager at Logitech South Africa, says there is a growing market for visual communications products in both the home and business environments. He expects Beyond IT to play a key role in driving these markets in the future.

"The ability to add live images to instant messages increases the level of personalisation of online communications," says Bezuidenhout. "Users can also use webcam technology for broadcasting images over the , to set up a video surveillance system, direct stop-motion and time-lapse animated movies and organise pictures and videos in an integrated gallery.

"As the leading manufacturer of Internet video cameras, with global sales of more than four million QuickCam units last year alone, Logitech and its business partners are well positioned to drive the South African visual communications market," he says.

Gary Levy, a director of Beyond IT, says Logitech`s range of webcams and wireless accessories complements Beyond IT`s focus on visual communications solutions, mobile technology and gadgets.

Levy plans in-store demonstrations to enable interested customers to gain an insight into the new developments associated with the technologies. For example, he plans live video conferencing sessions between stores.

The stores will market the range of Logitech`s popular QuickCam family of webcams that span a variety of needs - from basic video and picture transmission over the Internet to full video conferencing using new generation microphone-equipped webcams.

In addition to its desk-based webcams, Logitech has a mobile version, the QuickCam Traveler, which offers both Web communication and digital still camera functionality.
