Visual computing lab for Europe
Intel has teamed up with the University of Saarland, Germany, to create a visual computing research centre in Europe, reports ZDNet.
The new centre will collaborate with Intel's tera-research programme, which explores how multiple computing cores can be used to produce higher-performance computing and more realistic graphics.
Working with leading academics in the sector, Intel hopes to develop faster, more accurate and more realistic applications for use in industries such as financial services, oil and gas exploration, and medical imaging.
Harris builds parts for space system
Melbourne-based Harris Corporation has received a three-year, multimillion-dollar deal from Boeing to build spare components of the International Space Station's audio-visual display system, according to Orlando Sentinel.
Harris did not provide a specific value of the contract.
Among other things, Harris has produced the space station's internal audio and video distribution systems, both critical elements of the station's fibre-optic communications network.
X-series Walkman coming June
Sony Canada says the new touchscreen X-series Walkman will be available next month in Canada, reports Digital Home.
The touchscreen X-series Walkman was first announced at this year's CES in Las Vegas, and was originally expected to arrive on 13 May.
The Sony NWZ- X1060B is WiFi-enabled and features a three-inch organic light emitting diode touchscreen, 32GB of storage, built-in digital noise cancelling technology, FM tuner, integrated Web browser and MPEG4 video playback.
