A conference for developers on the Visual Studio.Net framework will take place at the CSIR from 17 to 19 November, organised and hosted by training company VS-Max.
Organiser Ernest Klokow says third-party conferences like VS-Max are "institutions" in the US and Europe, with events like VSLive and VSConnections. "They happen several times a year and are heavily supported by Microsoft. The intention is to make this also an annual event."
Having hosted similar conferences on the Visual Basic platform in 1995 and 1996, Klokow says a need for advanced training exists in SA. "We also host boot camps, workshops and more to address this gap." VS-Max was formed in May.
Microsoft has provided assistance by mailing notifications to its developer partners on its regular newsletters, but does not provide financial assistance.
Kaylash Bhana, product manager of developer tools at Microsoft SA, says that as few developers could afford to attend the US events, it was decided to bring it to SA.
"It is a third-party event, and although we will not provide funding, we give marketing assistance and help them source speakers. Given the quality of the speakers and the content, it comes highly recommended by Microsoft."
Klokow says the conference facility features video conferencing, and the international speakers sourced for tracks and keynotes are of "the highest quality".
"They are helping us build the curricula for the future," he says.
Over three days, the event will feature two keynotes, 20 sessions and a panel discussion. Handouts will include Visual Studio Pro 2003 trial version, a chapter out of a Visual Studio book.
