VMware, a provider of virtualisation and cloud computing solutions, has recognised its top African channel partners.
At the awards ceremony last night, which took place in Johannesburg, Westcon Africa was named the distributor of the year while a small Kenyan company, Seven Seas, got the VMware African partner of the year award.
Dell received the highest revenue contributor of the year award for 2010. HP was crowned original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partner of the year while Datacentrix was named the OEM reseller of the year.
The other companies recognised were First Distribution, First Technologies, Dimension Data, and Aptronics.
VMware also acknowledged contributions of individuals like Jannie Hanekom of Datacentrix as a VMware Certified Design Expert, Quintus Moolman from Dimension Data for his contribution and effort to VMware in the Eastern Cape, and Emmanuel Adeogun from Nigeria for his contribution and effort to VMware in Africa.
The company promised that in future it will also recognise system integrators, cloud service providers and emerging products partners.
Chris Norton, regional director of VMware Southern Africa, told the company's channel partners that they are a critical extension of VMware's sales and services ecosystem in addressing specific requirements of customers across the continent.
Channel partners play a key role in increasing the revenue of VMware, he said.
Norton added that the awards are a way of rewarding partners that performed well in the past year and he encouraged those that didn't win not to lose hope and work harder this year as the awards will be back next year.
