VMware CEO steps down
CloudPro writes.
Maritz will be replaced by Pat Gelsinger, EMC's COO, after four years at the helm of VMware, but will remain on the firm's board of directors.
David Goulden, the vendor's executive VP and CFO, will succeed Gelsinger at EMC.
Computer Weekly says Maritz started off heading EMC's cloud computing division, but less than six months later, was appointed CEO of VMware, replacing its co-founder, Diane Greene.
“Today we are witnessing an extraordinary transformation in the IT industry unlike anything we have seen before,” says Joe Tucci, EMC CEO.
Maritz's departure may be badly timed, given that Microsoft looms as a real threat to VMware's share of the virtualisation market, ITProPortal notes.
The two companies are locked in a death match to rule the virtualisation roost.
