VMware has introduced new product offerings and capabilities across its end-user computing product portfolio, to broaden support for the mobile workforce.

The announcements were made yesterday during the VMworld 2013 Conference in Barcelona.

The company's CEO, Pat Gelsinger, noted that the portfolio was expanded with a focus on lowering cost, simplifying management and enhancing performance to help organisations and the industry advance workforce mobility.

"The innovations we are introducing around cost, management and performance of our products make a compelling case to companies searching for a modern approach to supporting their mobile workforces," said Sanjay Poonen, executive VP and GM for end-user computing at VMware.

The company introduced the VMware Horizon Suite, which it says is an integrated platform that supports the mobile workforce by connecting end-users to their data, applications and desktops, using any device, without sacrificing IT and control.

It brings together Horizon View, Horizon Mirage and Horizon Workspace to create a single, unified solution designed to transform technology silos into centralised IT services that can be easily provisioned, managed and delivered to end-users, it notes.

VMware adds that updates to VMware Horizon Suite include VMware Horizon View 5.3, which it says will offer an improved user experience, streamlined management, reduced total cost of ownership, and a new route to market for virtual desktops.

It adds that Horizon View virtual desktops will offer workstation replacement options with workstation-class 3D graphics using Virtual Dedicated Graphics Acceleration (vDGA) enabled by Nvidia Grid technology to support high-performance graphics and compute workloads, such as those required by the design, manufacturing, and oil and gas industries.

According to VMware, updates to VMware Horizon Suite, Socialcast, ThinApp and VMware Ready smartphones are expected to be available in the fourth quarter of 2013. The public beta of VMware Virtual SAN for Horizon View is available immediately through the VMware Web site.
