Pretoria-based IT services and solutions provider Ubuntu Technologies has underlined its growing reputation in the enterprise technology market by winning VMware's Rising Star Award for 2012 for South Africa and the WECA (West, East and Central Africa) region, which includes most of the African continent.
The Rising Star Award recognises Ubuntu's contribution to growth in VMware business throughout 2012, said Wayne Biehn, regional manager, Africa, at VMware. In the period under review, Ubuntu grew its VMware business by over 300% with major growth specifically in the public sector arena.
Ubuntu Technologies' Chief Executive, Wandile Bereng, said virtualisation was integral to the delivery of most IT projects today, and had become a significant focus area for the company.
"Working closely with VMware over the past 12 months has been a major factor in the growth of our business," said Bereng. "This award is great recognition of the strides we've made in building our cloud and virtualisation offerings. We're seeing an unprecedented demand for this type of solution right now, especially from across the continent, where companies are looking to consolidate their IT operations and gear themselves for expansion."
VMware's Biehn said its partner ecosystem was key to its expansion into the so-called hybrid cloud market, where it believes its experience in operating a cloud service will allow it to more rapidly take innovations to market in the coming months.
"The Rising Star Award acknowledges not only the dedication of Ubuntu Technologies to the VMware brand, but also its ability to ensure our customer expectations are met when delivering cloud and virtualisation strategies," said Biehn. "Apart from their stellar revenue growth, Ubuntu stand out in the marketplace in areas like their active marketing initiatives, skills development and upsell initiatives."
Fanus Momberg, National Sales Manager, Public Sector, received the award on behalf of the Ubuntu Group of Companies.
Ubuntu's head office is in Erasmuskloof, Pretoria, with offices also located in Bloemfontein, Cape Town, East London, Kimberley, Mafikeng, Nelspruit, Pietermaritzburg and Polokwane.
