VMware plans to acquire software-defined data centre security, operations and analytics provider Arkin Net.
Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed and the transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2016.
With this acquisition, VMware plans to integrate Arkin's platform with its cloud management platform, VRealize suite.
Arkin is expected to join VMware's cloud management business unit, a team of people responsible for VMware's vRealize management suite, says Ajay Singh, senior VP and GM, management suites business unit at VMware.
Arkin team members are also expected to work to increase collaboration with VMware's network and security business unit, providing customers an integrated approach to next-generation cloud management, he says.
As organisations globally adopt software-defined data centre architectures to deliver automation, security and continuity for applications, VMware NSX network virtualisation is being widely adopted in large scale production deployments, says Shekar Ayyar, corporate senior vice president, strategy and corporate development at VMware.
He points out Arkin is expected to help create a bridge and accelerate two of VMware's key growth businesses: management and networking.
"Arkin's management platform is purpose-built for NSX and helps enterprises adopt, integrate and deploy next-gen network virtualisation and security technologies."
"With VMware NSX combined with Arkin and VMware's cloud management platform vRealize, VMware will deliver the security and operations management plane for the software-defined data centre."
As organisations globally adopt software-defined data centre architectures to deliver automation, security and continuity for applications, VMware NSX network virtualisation is being widely adopted in large-scale production deployments, says Ayyar.
To power the shift to digital business for organisations, VMWare needs to both champion its own internal innovation and to augment those efforts through acquired inventions, he adds.
This can help VMware enhance and develop its product portfolio - always staying at the forefront of market leadership, says Ayyar.
