VMware unveils vFabric Data Director
CBR writes.
The new release simplifies and automates database life cycle management, allowing IT to deliver database as a service.
The Register says the vFabric Suite has a self-service portal where developers can spin up a database service on cloud infrastructure, and it also does all of the patching and updating to the database code.
"Databases have been the final frontier for virtualisation," says Fausto Ibarra, senior director of product management for data and analytics at VMware.
The new release features APIs for integration with other products such as vCloud Director, vFabric Application Director, the Cloud Foundry open source project, EMC Data Domain and Greenplum Chorus, BizTech2.com notes.
“The journey to cloud computing is all about reducing complexity for developers and IT operations in order to be able to more effectively meet the demands of today's application realities - faster development cycles, more data and higher expectations for IT responsiveness,” said Jerry Chen, VP, cloud and application services, VMware.
