Vodacom Group (Pty) Ltd announces today that it has approved an amount of R3 million for political funding.
The amount is a once-off payment which will be allocated between the four main political parties in Parliament - African National Congress, Democratic Alliance, Inkatha Freedom Party and New National Party.
Mthobi Tyamzashe, Vodacom`s Group Executive - Corporate Affairs, said the funding would be made through the Vodacom Foundation, the cellphone operator`s corporate social investment arm.
"This funding is a direct contribution by the company towards the advancement of multiparty democracy in an election year in which we are also celebrating 10 years of SA`s democracy. It does not constitute a deviation from Vodacom`s policy of not funding political parties," said Tyamzashe.
