“Apologies to all our customers for the BlackBerry problems - the issue was with systems external to Vodacom and affected a number of countries,” the company recently Tweeted.
“There will be some backlogs and Internet browsing could be affected,” adds Vodacom.
Earlier today, the company had little detail as to what exactly the problem was but has since put the blame elsewhere.
Richard Boorman, Vodacom spokesperson, explains that the operator piggybacks off some of the Vodafone and Research In Motion systems to deliver BlackBerry services in the country. He says the fault was somewhere between these two systems.
He explains that because the system failure was not a Vodacom one, it was increasingly difficult to solve the problem; however, services have been fully restored.
The operator also reported faults on its 2G and 3G data networks within Sandton, Rosebank and Midrand, but those were resolved earlier today.
