Alan Knott-Craig, CEO of SA`s largest cellular operator Vodacom, is recovering in a Gauteng following a heart attack.

"He is in a stable condition," says Dot Field, Vodacom group executive of corporate communications.

Knott-Craig (54) suffered the attack just after 8am yesterday morning, she says, adding she does not know what could have caused it. "He is usually a very healthy, fit man."

The amount of time Knott-Craig will have to stay in hospital is not yet known, she notes. She did not divulge which hospital he is in.

Knott-Craig suffered a heart attack just over six years ago, which, at the time, raised concerns that he may be forced into early retirement.

While he is recuperating, Vodacom`s delegation of authority will be with Pieter Uys, the company`s COO.

"Our core management team are all in office at the moment," she adds, foreseeing little disruption to the company. "It`s business as usual for Vodacom," she states.
