The new look Vodacom Cup hits rugby fields around the country this weekend as the South African game`s latest blockbuster kicks off.
The Lions, who last year claimed their third consecutive Vodacom Cup title with a 35-16 win over the Blue Bulls, return as the stars of the show as they begin the defence of their title against the Griffons at Ellis Park on Saturday, 12 March.
The Bulls, who have made the finals for the past four seasons, go in search of their own place in the spotlight this year when they open their campaign against Investec Western Province at Securicor Loftus in Pretoria on Friday, 11 March.
With seven matches a weekend over the next two months, the country`s next generation of stars will each ascribe to the Vodacom Cup motto of "Play Your Heart Out" as they use the competition as a stepping-stone to greater things, starting at 15:30 on Friday, 11 March, when the Boland Kavaliers open the competition in their clash against the @tlantic Pumas in Wellington.
The Vodacom Cup is Vodacom`s passionate commitment to the future of South African rugby in which tomorrow`s stars get recognised today.
"Vodacom supports South African rugby across the board, from the pinnacle of the game in representing your country at the highest level, to ensuring there is a healthy flow of new talent through the ranks to keep us one of the premier rugby nations in the world," said Mthobi Tyamzashe, Vodacom Chief Communications Officer.
"We are extremely proud to have the support of a company such as Vodacom, who have invested heavily in ensuring we keep producing great rugby players and even greater South African sports ambassadors," said Brian van Rooyen, President of SA Rugby.
"This year`s Vodacom Cup is being billed as a blockbuster, and I am confident it will have everyone on the edge of their seats as we head towards a final that will no doubt surprise and thrill us all."
