Cellular network operator Vodacom now has more than 10 million customers.
By the end of last year, according to the company`s quarterly update for the three months to 31 December, Vodacom had 10.2 million customers on its networks in SA and other African countries.
This represents a 6.2% increase over the September quarter.
International operations accounted for about 1.3 million or 12.7% of the total customer base, with the South African customer base now at 8.9 million (1.3 million on contract and 7.6 million prepaid).
The number of South African contract subscribers increased by 6.6% since the end of September, while the number of prepaid customers rose by 4.3%.
The average revenue per user (ARPU) in SA increased from R179 to R184 per month.
The company generated average monthly revenue of R665 per contract subscriber and R91 per prepaid customer.
Vodacom Mozambique, which began commercial operations in December, had already garnered 15 815 customers by the end of that month.
