Recently appointed CEO of SA's third mobile operator, Alan Knott-Craig, has appointed three executives from within the ranks of first mobile operator, Vodacom, Cell C confirmed yesterday.

Former Vodacom CEO and Cell C head as of last month, Knott-Craig has started reconstructing his new mobile domain with the appointment of three executives, all employees - past and present - of his former mobile empire.

A Cell C spokesperson says Frikkie Vermeulen, the former COO of Vodacom's Nigerian operation, has been appointed by the company in the same role, while Johan Brittz, contracted as executive head of radio networks with Vodacom Mozambique, has been appointed as CTO.

The third appointment, says Cell C, is former Vodacom Mozambique CEO Jose dos Santos. The company will advise on his position and start date “at a later stage”.

Vodacom head of corporate affairs Richard Boorman says he can confirm that Dos Santos resigned from the group's Mozambique operation in March, but cannot comment on previous company officers.

Earlier this week, Knott-Craig announced a least-cost routing service for the enterprise market that saw mobile calls dropping to 99c a minute.
