Vodacom, NIL South Africa win Cisco award for Most Innovative Data Centre, Cloud and Virtualisation Project of the Year at Cisco Live! London 2012

Johannesburg, 13 Mar 2012

Vodacom, the leading provider of converged mobile communication solutions in Africa, and NIL, a leading global provider of unified computing solutions, announces that they are the recipients of the Cisco Award for Most Innovative Data Centre, Cloud and Virtualisation Project of the Year for their “Office in the Cloud” project.

Cisco unveiled the winners at Cisco Live! 2012, in London, during the week of 30 January 2012.

Cisco Innovation Awards recognise advanced technology initiatives that clearly demonstrate the benefits of a well-managed deployment, deliver significant improvements, and introduce innovative new services through the effective use of technology.

“Cisco is proud to work with many well-respected and industry-leading organisations worldwide, and it's our privilege to recognise Vodacom and NIL as Cisco Innovation Award winners,” said Stefano Mattiello, Channel Director, Cisco South Africa.

“Cloud computing is profoundly transforming the way information and services are consumed and provided. The most Innovative Data Centre, Cloud and Virtualisation Project of the Year award was presented to Vodacom and NIL to recognise their outstanding achievements in the deployment and successful implementation of innovative technologies.”

“We are delighted to receive this award from Cisco. Vodacom's Office in the Cloud solution, developed in South Africa, now has global recognition and shows our commitment to both local and international markets. It places us at the forefront of technological innovation and our understanding of what businesses, small to large, require to increase their profitability. Cisco and NIL, our partners in the development of this solution, share our vision and commitment,” says Richard Vester, Executive Head, Hosted Services, at Vodacom Business Services.

“This award recognises the solution's innovative design, technical quality and business potential,” commented Martin Camp, Director of NIL, South Africa. “The 'Office in the Cloud' solution is the result of the joint efforts of Vodacom, Cisco and NIL, and this award will help to strengthen our market position.”

Now in their eighth year, the Cisco Innovation Awards were handed out for six categories. The judging panel included specialists from IDC, KPMG, press, as well as Cisco.

'Vodacom Office in the Cloud' uses virtualisation technology and hosted applications to bring enterprise-class IT services to businesses from small to large. It is a complete managed office solution that enables customers to rent everything they need for a fully functional office, resulting in lower costs, less problems and allowing them more time for their core business. The solution is primarily intended to support businesses by providing them with enterprise-class IT services that would otherwise not be available to them because of high costs (e.g. high availability using redundant equipment, high performance, advanced security).
