SA's largest cellular operator, Vodacom, has dropped the price of its broadband offerings, with savings as high as 72% on some of its bundles.
From next month, contract users on its two highest-end packages will pay as little as 7c a megabyte, if they also take advantage of the “Night Owl” promotion, according to its new pricing structure.
Vodacom says the Night Owl deal has been extended to all subscribers who can “double their data for free with Night Owl,” which takes the highest level of potential savings to 72%, the operator says in a press release.
Night Owl was a limited offering, but has now been extended to all contract subscribers, allowing them to double up their data use, if they surf between midnight and 5am. “We hope these price reductions will contribute to making the Internet more affordable and give our customers an enhanced connected experience,” says CEO Pieter Uys.
Existing Vodacom contract subscribers will automatically benefit from the new tariffs and will be migrated to the next bigger bundle size. For example, current 300MB subscribers will be migrated to 500MB, at a lower overall tariff.
Both 8ta and MTN have recently cut data costs. Telkom's mobile arm, 8ta, is offering broadband at about 1c per MB, while MTN cut the cost of its uncapped Internet packages from the beginning of this month.
