The country's biggest mobile operator, Vodacom, has announced the resignation of Richard Snow from its board, with immediate effect.

No reason has been given for the resignation; however, the operator has announced that Snow has been replaced by Nick Read, regional CEO of Vodafone: Africa, Asia Pacific and Middle East.

Read joined Vodafone in 2002 and has held a number of senior roles, including CFO and chief commercial officer of Vodafone UK, and was appointed CEO of Vodafone UK in early 2006.

Peter Moyo, chairman of Vodacom Group, stated that he welcomes the appointment and is looking forward to Read's contribution on the board.

The company could not be reached for further comment at this time.
