Vodacom scoops PMR Golden Arrow Award

Johannesburg, 03 Oct 2005

Vodacom has scooped yet another prestigious award this year by being honoured with the Professional Management Review (PMR) Golden Arrow Award in the Business Sector, rated as the Best Cellphone Service Provider in Gauteng and Mpumalanga.

The Golden Arrow Award for the Gauteng province was presented to Vodacom at the PMR awards breakfast function in Johannesburg this morning.

Based on the survey conveyed in the Gauteng Province during July and August 2005, the biggest PMR survey run to date, Vodacom scored a rating of 3.99 out of a possible 5.00 in the Business Sector: Cellphone Service Providers.

PMR bases all its awards on independent surveys conducted by its independent research unit PMR Research, to showcase companies, government departments and people perceived by the public as stimulating and developing economic growth in each province and country.

In the biggest survey to date, a total of 7 243 ratings or nominations were sourced throughout the province. The results are based on the perceptions of MDs, CEOs and other senior management at Gauteng-based companies and directors/deputy directors of provincial and local government departments.

Companies were rated or nominated for:

* Doing the most in their sector to stimulate and develop economic growth in the province.
* Enhancing sustainable development and contributing towards arts and culture.
* Corporate governance.
* Doing the most for BEE.

In the recently completed PMR survey in the Mpumalanga Province, Vodacom was also rated the highest in the category Business Sector: Cellphone Service Providers.

Asked about Vodacom being rated first in Gauteng and Mpumalanga Provinces, Mthobi Tyamzashe, Executive Director of Corporate Affairs at Vodacom, said: "The PMR results are proof that the public in these provinces perceive Vodacom to be more than just a telecommunications network.

"They believe that Vodacom is the leader in innovative technology and cellular offerings. Our CSI initiatives are developing into sustainable community programmes that assist in ensuring we continue to address socio-economic issues and proactively empower people at ground roots level," said Tyamzashe.

Vodacom looks forward to the PMR results for the other provinces later this year.
