VOIP growth remains strong

A new survey shows global voice services is topping the list of industries that are defying the recession, by having a projected revenue growth of 20.1%, says eWeek.

Industry research firm IBISWorld claims that services are still going strong and are expected to have the largest revenue growth in 2009.

"Emerging industries remain well represented and continue to benefit from technological innovation and cost advantages," says George Van Horn, a senior analyst from IBISWorld, "Unfortunately, the impact of the recession is equally pronounced among sectors directly benefiting from the social and financial stress associated with the downturn."

Bangladesh blocks illegal VOIP users

Bangladesh Telecommunication Commission (BTRC) has blocked SIM cards on allegations of illegal VOIP usage, reports BDNews24.com.

Among these, 18 826 were of the country's leading mobile operator, GrameenPhone.

Banglalink had the highest number of SIMs blocked, at 44 026. Warid saw 29 760 blocked SIMs. Some 6 002 from Aktel, 467 of Citycell, 9 525 of PSTN operator Rankstel, 23 of Dhaka Phone and 14 of Onetel were also blocked by the BTRC.

RadiSys improves Convedia media server

RadiSys has added voice quality enhancement (VQE) features to its Convedia Media Server, states Fierce VOIP.

The new VQE solution removes common sources of poor voice quality in VOIP conferencing applications, including noise, packet loss and echo, and captures statistics for voice quality measurement suitable for upholding service level agreements.

Benefits of the VQE package embedded into Convedia media servers include improved audio quality, minimised end-to-end delay, streamline network integration, and reduced capital expenditures and ongoing operational costs through consolidated utilisation of network equipment resources.
