Vox Orion launches hosted PBX service for large customers

Johannesburg, 12 Oct 2009

Managed telecommunications company Vox Orion, a member of the Vox Telecom group of companies, has announced the launch of a new hosted PBX service aimed at the entire spectrum of customers from SMEs to large corporates.

Vox Orion MD Jacques du Toit says the service, a joint venture with equipment supplier Siemens, is part of a general move towards lower-risk hosted services that offer customers a quicker return on their investment and better cost management than traditional models.

“For many companies it no longer makes financial or technical sense to own their own PBX and related equipment,” says du Toit. “The upfront cost is high, the technology very quickly becomes outdated and the management of the infrastructure and services can be very onerous, especially when technical skills are scarce.”

Du Toit says hosted services solve all these problems. “The technology has really come of age. In the past, many clients didn't have local networks that were ready to carry voice, and the cost of bandwidth was prohibitive. Now at least 70% of our customers have voice-ready networks, the costs of bandwidth are coming down dramatically and the technology itself is cheaper and easier to deploy. Another major benefit is that the customer can retain his legacy equipment, while at the same time create a few power users via this solution. This allows them to over time migrate all the users to IP centric services ”

Hosted voice solutions, says du Toit, offer customers much greater flexibility in both technical and financial terms. “You get access to technology that would otherwise be expensive, and you're spending from your opex rather than your capex budget. The cost of management is lower because the service provider can spread the pool of available skills across its client base, and the quality of service is often better.”

Vox Orion, previously known as a provider of least-cost routing services, has greatly expanded its focus since being acquired by the Vox Telecom group. It now offers a full range of voice, data and fax services to its corporate client base.
